Barn Wedding Trends 2019

Posted on January 15, 2019

One of the early wedding trends that we’re seeing here at The Barn at Botley Hill, in terms of enquiries from brides and grooms-to-be, is the high proportion of couples that live in London.

Keen to escape the ‘big smoke’ for their special day, they long for the charm of an idyllic, rural wedding, surrounded by rolling green countryside. Equally, though, they don’t want to have to travel too far – or for their guests to have a long journey either.

Located just 20 miles from central London, it takes next to no time to get to The Barn at Botley Hill.

Happily, here at the wedding barn, we can provide all that rustic country charm and more. Close to London, and yet with those stunning panoramic Surrey views over the North Downs, you really are in the countryside here. Then there’s the gorgeous rustic setting of the wedding barn itself.

Country barn wedding trends

So, for those who are keen on the idea of a country wedding, what are the big trends for 2019?

  • Wild flowers
Well, in the wake of Princess Eugenie’s wedding, tumbling cascades of wild flowers are set to be big news. These can look lovely draped over doorways, up steps and across tables – almost creating the feeling of bringing the outdoors in – with lush, green foliage a key component too.
  • Fairy lights
Add to the romantic, boho style with strings of white fairy lights hung sparingly around the room – though less is more, mind, as you don’t want it to feel like Santa’s grotto.
  • Country styling
Complete the look with leafy motifs on the wedding stationery and scented candles with essential oils. Another nice touch could be floral ice cubes and using seasonal, English ethically produced flowers.Groom in blue suit with corsage
  • Charming wedding favours
For the finishing touch, and the ultimate in relaxed, quirky charm, why not place a Polaroid camera on each of the tables? The resulting style of photo lends itself perfectly to a rustic wedding. Plus, it’s a great way to get the guests talking and bonding, and they’ll have a lovely souvenir to take away with them that they can keep forever.
  • Environmentally friendly
With environmental matters on everyone’s minds, another big trend for the year ahead is likely to be the rise of the eco-wedding – which, of course, segues nicely with the idea of a country wedding. Tap into both these things by going plastic-free for the day and encourage your caterer to select local, sustainable ingredients. You could also think about offering a vegetarian or vegan option too.
  • Boho, free-flowing wedding dress
In terms of the wedding dress, the two royal weddings will inevitably have a big influence on the styles for this year, with both brides opting for a simple, classic look. However, for a more rustic, country feel, why not think about one of the more boho, free-flowing gowns we are also seeing this season. Almost Pre-Raphaelite in style, they have a lacy, whimsical feel and look perfect with naturalist hair left in relaxed waves. Finish it off with a delicate headband woven through with tiny flowers.
  • Charming wedding accommodation
Finally, with guests also having the option to stay the night in our beautiful shepherds’ huts, it really is a perfect weekend away – and the ultimate escape to the country.Shepherds hut with flowers and bridal gown
